"I'm sure they'll come around to our way of thinking eventually."
He watches Emily leave, expression changing to one of cool concentration. Something about that girl. Useful? Perhaps.
But, something more important springs to mind. "Young Enterprise. Max Byrd thinks he's onto something. He and Mia are meeting on the roof in a few hours to discuss. Should I crash?"

"Don't you walk away from me, young lady. I want a detailed report on your supervisory duties on my desk in... Let's see."
She glances at her watch.
"Thirty-seven minutes."
She then turns to Daniel and Laurie, smiling broadly. "Oh, please do. We're up to absolutely nothing, and it would be such a shame for Byrd and your sister to waste their time finding that out. You know, they could waste so much time on that - it could do considerable damage to their grades."

"You. You. You're not..."
Emily bursts into floods of tears, and dashes off into the school. Her cries rapidly get louder, and several birds pursue her down the corridor. The birds don't cause much trouble, at least until a boreal owl crashes through a neighbouring window.

Daniel feels... moral... compunctions?
Is this what it feels like to have moral compunctions?
He resolves to do something to make it up to her. Buy her lunch! May need to shake down a few year sevens first; he's out of change. He could intimidate someone into doing her maths homework? Teach her how to intimidate nerds in general?
Well, whatever, she'll probably be fine.
Far more importantly: "Wait, really? Wouldn't Mia's teachers have something to say about that?"

"This is all we got for the last batch, and there's a bit of interest in more already."
Laurie digs in a pocket and pulls out a roll of notes. She peels off four bills, hands two to Daniel, re pockets two and hands the rest of the roll to Dr. Moon.

It is at this point that you realise that, in a remarkable display of oblivious stealth, somebody has inadvertently sneaked into the corridor. She looks young, probably only sixteen, and her dress sense is frankly painful to see. To call it chavvy would be a) using an unpleasant and ill-defined term that has contributed much to the increasing demonisation of the working class, and b) absolutely accurate nonetheless. The newcomer looks up from her phone. "Wot?" she asks, and it is very definitely 'wot' with an 'o', not 'what' with an a.
If anybody knows Arkady, they'll recognise the newcomer as his sister.

Daniel doesn't make a habit of speaking to people who say 'what' with an 'o'. Or, for that matter, of acknowledging them with anything more than a disdainful curl of the lip - an expression he is presently deploying to maximum effect.
He pockets the cash. "Can we discuss this in your office, Dr Moon? After I've spoken to my sister. Just, don't be- hasty. Or anything. Please?"

Cassie meets the disdainful curl with a gesture that is far less subtle, but far more satisfying. "Oi, Moon-woman: This is actually dead convenient. I got kicked out of my room, so gimme a new one or I'll go nattering to the student council about your dodgy dealings. Plz?" She says, somehow enunciating the 'lz' that isn't actually present in the word.

She quickly flicks through the money, before retrieving an envelope from her bag, labelling it in somewhat unreadable handwriting, and re-stowing it (presumably never to be seen again. Moon likewise doesn't acknowledge the newcomer, but instead nods to Daniel.
"Of course not. I'd never be hasty when it comes to Young Enterprise. Serious business, after all! And let me know when you plan to drop by, I'll put the kettle on - I have inadvertently been hearing a little news, and I suspect we may be having a long chat."
At Cassie's words, she turns on her heel and glares, before nodding. "Of course. My 'dodgy dealings'. Such as receiving this entirely legitimate money from these hard working Young Enterprise students" - she indicates Laurie and Daniel - "and placing it in that so transparently labelled envelope. Clearly, corruption is at work! It will take the brave... I'm sorry, what is your name? - to foil it. Actually, never mind the name. I don't need it to give you a detention for rudeness, and I can't think of any other reason I'd want it. The only way I could give you a room in any case would be for business. Strictly Enterprise only, those perks."

Cassie gives the smile of a girl that knows full well that she can't be given a detention because she doesn't actually go to the school and is basically squatting in Arkady's room. "Arright, moon-woman. I'll find somewhere else. I hear the YE clubhouse is nice and cosy this time of year."
---Cassie's berserk-o-meter: 20%---

"Young Enterprise is one of this school's most valued institutions. Show a little respect, Zarovich."
When he stoops to verbal interaction with her- well, it's not like he doesn't know who she is. Cassie bit the nose right off one of his best informants, once. He thought about head hunting her for Young Enterprise's security team, until he realised she was Arkady's sister.
(Urgh.)
He turns back to Moon. "I'll text you. Their conversations tend to...meander."
Spying on Mia et al. Great. There goes twelve hours of his life, swallowed in a figurative morass of pointless bickering and half-baked vitriol. And people say Daniel is the antisocial twin.
With that, he heads roofwards. Moon likes to terrorise students alone, when stressed. It's apparently rather therapeutic.

Laurie follows after Daniel, like a sinister and mildly sarcastic shadow.
Much as she is intruiged by the prospect of Moon tearing into Cassie, some things are better not witnessed
