Bia relishes the end of her sentence, ignoring Daniel until she has finished.
"Then she was all like, 'Though the fact that you seem to think I am prepared to be goaded into some kind of admission of wrongdoing is interesting.' "
When she is done her friends all burst into laughter, and she glances Daniel's way.
"Yes, me. Did you have a problem with that?"

"Oh, me? No problem." He grins, like Bia's not in on a particularly funny joke. Or like he's also laughing at the apparent lack of goading into admission of wrongdoings. It's ambiguous.
"Guess you missed that one talk on lung cancer."

{carries on from here}
Behind them, down the hallway the double doors open, and close again behind the lithe muscular form of Maxwell Byrd.
He glances both ways down the hall, exquisitely shaped nose wrinkling at the faint smell of cigarette smoke, and other substances.
The hallway was lined with seeming endless lockers, some jammed open with the rising smell of bleach belonging to students absent over the Summer, others still secure.
He smirks back at the shut door of the lunch hall, then heads away from the smoking cluster, towards the front of the School, and back out towards the track.
{Takes to the tracks here}

A number of the girls suddenly stop laughing along with Bia, and begin to head in Max's direction. Each looks as if she doesn't want anyone else to notice her go, and each fails entirely to do so. Bia looks momentarily annoyed at her friends deserting her, but quickly regains her composure. She sinuously pushes herself off the wall, and steps in very close to Daniel. Her remaining friends move to follow, forming a small horseshoe around the pair, with the fire escape at the rapidly-closing open end.
"Lung cancer?" Bia giggles, "I'm a *super*, idiot, I'm immune."
Bia pauses to take a long drag on her cigarette.
"You're also immune."
Bia ventilates the 'u' in 'immune' to an excessive degree, extending it well past the end of the sentence. This has the effect of sending a long stream of smoke directly into Daniel's face, aimed mostly at his mouth. By the time he can respond, she is offering him a cigarette and wearing a very predatory smile.

Laurie's response is faster than expected, arm coming past Daniel to catch Bia's cigarette from her lips.
She straightens, seeming taller than all the students gathered round, and then very deliberately extinguishes the lit end against the palm of her other hand.
"There's no need to be rude about it." She smiles.

(REALLY, now? What exactly is so attractive about Maxwell freaking Byrd? Besides the rugged good looks and the effortless cool and the occasional rakishly charming smirk. Besides all that.)
Daniel cringes a little at the smoke, but doesn't move an inch. And his smirk returns full-force when Laurie reaches around him.
"Oh, of course. So I suppose it's more a question of taste. Or lack thereof."

Still proffering the cigarette to Daniel, Bia turns her attention to Laurie.
"No need to be rude? I wasn't. You were. Any particular reason why you're intruding on our fun?"

As if motivated to appear by the mere mention of fun, Dr Moon, Guidance Counselor Totally Unrelated To That Staffroom Smuggling Ring, emerges through the double doors and stares disapprovingly at the smokers.
"What are you up to, children? Not you, Daniel. You're very adult. And possibly you too, Miss Heyward. Mostly talking to you, Bia. Anyway, do I need to take you all in for another talk on how you'll never achieve a suitable career progression to the financial services industry by behaving like this?"

"Oh, Dr Moon!" What a pleasant surprise!
Very, very quickly, he grabs the cigarette Bia is proffering, and shoves it right to the bottom of his pocket.
"Actually, Bia and her... friends... were just telling me about the innermost workings of the student council. Did you know they want to strengthen their ties with Young Enterprise?"

"Hello Dr Moon,"
Laurie simultaneously straightened up and seems to shrink a little.
"I'm just here to distribute these flyers around the school, for the Beat Bullying campaign"
Laurie rolls one of them up and places it gently into Bia's still outstretched hand, and smiles, helpfully

Knowing a lost cause when she sees one, Bia turns her back on the offending presences and stalks off in the direction of the track. Her followers follow obediently.

"now who's being rude...?"
Laurie turns back to Dr Moon and grins, openly
"What can we help you with at the moment Teach?"

Even as Bia stalks into the distance, Emily appears from inside the school. She looks like she is daydreaming, and certainly unaware of her surroundings. Her little nose wrinkles as she smells the smoke, and she snaps back into the present. She begins to talk to no-one in particular, a stream of consciousness rather than a directed sentence.
"Oh. Oh. Is somebody smoking? I'm supposed to write that down."
After a quick search, she seems to realise that she isn't carrying her books any more.
"Oh. Um. Er."

"Clearly they're not quite as interested in strengthening ties as you are, Daniel. Even so, do tell me - innermost workings of the Student Council? And very good work, Miss Heyward. Do let me know if you see any bullies. You know, I've heard loud games tend to be rife with bullying. As do clubs. Just put a few up during their meetings, would you?"
As Emily emerges, Moon checks her pockets and surreptitiously moves a small bottle into her bag, before glaring at the newcomer. Interrupting a conversation with her favourite students? Interrupting -plotting-?
"Yes. You are. I'm very disappointed, Miss Choi."

Emily's wide eyes look down disconsolately. She looks on the verge of tears once more.
"Yes. Um. Sorry. I don't. Um."
She turns to go, beginning to head back into the school.
